A Test Case On The Effectiveness Of Google Adwords
The primary methods for finding new clients, I learned pretty quickly, fall into two categories, offline and online. Because online is the topic we are going to focus on that, which include search engine optimization, website design, link building, and whatever else I thought might work. This included using Google adwords.
Google adwords is the tool Google allows people to use to advertise on the search pages of their site (among other places). If you go to Google and search for Seattle DUI defense attorney you’ll see ads across the top and the right side of the page. You can pay to have your ad there. But I was skeptical because I’d read somewhere that a lot of people just skip over them.
Even though I wasn’t real confident adwords would provide any boost to my criminal defense practice, I thought I’d give it a shot. What I found when the ads were running wasn’t very surprising. A lot of people don’t click on the ads. A lot of people just glance right over them (or glance over mine). People do click, but not a lot.
One thing I didn’t totally take into account, however, was how easy it is to turn a profit with adwords. With adwords, you only pay every time someone clicks on your ad. Otherwise it just sits out there, waiting. You can set a monthly budget so you don’t lose your shirt, and all it takes is one click to help you make money.
Using adwords, in many ways, is a win-win situation. It doesn’t take a lot of effort, it doesn’t take a lot of money, you get your ad put in front of a tremendous number of people that are looking for something that you are offering, and the potential for profit is big. The real key lies in optimizing your ads and optimizing your landing pages to get people to call you once they’ve clicked.
